Both of these are phones I would like to have because of their advanced features but I don’t care about the phone capabilities and would like to get either one without a contract. Besides paying for the device, will I get charged on anything if I use these phones without a contract?

No if you buy it flat out, you do not have to pay other fee’s. Now if you unlock it and switch networks, then you will have to pay the phone plan on that network.
